Changsha, China – A delegation from Southeast and South Asian countries, invited and sponsored by the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), received a warm welcome from Mr. Gao Wenqi, Vice Mayor of Changsha, on November 8. Mr. Gao addressed the delegation, offering an in-depth introduction to Changsha’s historical, economic, and social significance.
In his speech, Mr. Gao described Changsha as a beautiful and historic city blessed with natural beauty and cultural heritage. He highlighted scenic spots such as Yuelu Mountain, the Xiang River, and Orange Isle, noting that Changsha is one of China’s green and scenic cities. He added that the name and location of this city have remained unchanged for over 3,000 years, and it has produced prominent national figures, including Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, and Hu Yaobang.
Mr. Gao also elaborated on Changsha’s industrial and economic growth, stating that the city’s economic output has reached 1.43 trillion yuan (about 200 billion USD), ranking sixth among provincial capitals in China. He mentioned that Changsha is a major industrial hub focused on sectors like new energy, electronic information, and advanced materials, with globally recognized companies such as Sany and Zoomlion headquartered in the city.
Highlighting Changsha’s role as a leader in innovation and technology, Mr. Gao noted that the city is home to 60 higher education institutions and nearly one million college students. Additionally, Changsha hosts 68 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Engineering and has ranked eighth in innovation for three consecutive years.
Mr. Gao extended an invitation to the delegation to consider investing in Changsha and to strengthen collaborative economic, social, and cultural ties. He remarked, “China and South Asian countries are close neighbors, and enhancing our economic, social, and cultural connections will be beneficial for both sides.”
The delegation is expected to continue their visit in China over the next week, gaining further insights into China’s development efforts and social programs.
