The Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed to help the people of Afghanistan to maintain stability and realize peace.
Jinping made the remarks at the China-Central Asia Summit.
China will “continue to help the Afghan people maintain security and stability and realize peace and reconstruction. We will work together to build a Central Asia that features no conflict,” he said.
This comes as Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in an interview with the Iranian media said that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan benefits the whole region.
He also said engagement with Afghanistan is essential and what is needed is a moderate approach prioritizing “countering terrorism and narcotic smuggling,” as well as the formation of an inclusive government.
Sharif said that Afghanistan is facing various challenges and that Iran and Pakistan and the international community should play their role in strengthening economic conditions of the people of Afghanistan.
“When China as a major industrial country signs contracts for commerce with Pakistan regarding production and commerce and development of the country, it (China) needs to do so with Afghanistan as well,” said Aziz Maarij, a former diplomat.
“The Islamic Emirate should accept the legitimate wishes that the world has of the Islamic Emirate and this is also acceptable for it (Islamic Emirate). They should also strengthen diplomatic efforts with the international community,” said Torialai Zazai, political analyst.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Emirate’s spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, said the regional countries should take practical steps in helping Afghanistan.
“The views and ideas which help Afghanistan’s stability, we welcome them. But I should say that practical steps are needed and these countries should take practical steps for stability and security in Afghanistan. The security in Afghanistan is an achievement at a regional level and it should be admired,” Mujahid said.
