The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) said that more than 6,000 Citizens’ Charter National Priority Programs (CCNPP) were halted after the fall of the former government in all 34 provinces of the country.

The projects were supported by the World Bank.

Deputy Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Sayed Ahmad Mustaqeeem said that they are trying to encourage the organizations to support these projects.

“The Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program has played an important role within the format of the ministry. After the changes in the country, the work on the projects has been stopped. We have around 6,000 unfinished projects,” he said.

Talking at a press conference on Sunday, the officials of the MRRD said that projects worth $69 million have been launched to provide drinking water to the citizens across the country.

“In Dand and Daman districts of Kandahar, 123 water canal projects worth $673 million Afs are under construction,” said Asadullah Imar, head of the water management department of the ministry.

This comes as the Ministry of Finance said that negotiations are underway with the World Bank to resume the projects in the country.

“The Ministry of Finance has been in talks with the international donors from the first day. We are trying to encourage them to resume their projects,” said Ahmad Wali Haqmal, a spokesman for the MoF.

After the fall of the former government, work on many small and big projects which were supported by the World Bank and Asian Development Banks were halted.
