Civilians Killed in Attack on Military Hospital

The Ministry of Defense confirmed that a number of civilians were casualties in the attack on the military hospital in the capital city of Kabul. 

On Tuesday two suicide bombers detonated their explosives within the gate of the Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital, which contains 400 beds to serve patients. Three other attackers stormed into the hospital.

The attack was claimed by Daesh.

Dr. Mohammad Tahir Ahrar, who is the head of a health section for the army, said Wednesday that women and children are among the casualties.

“Around the corner of the gate some women and children lost their lives” he said. “About two to three of our forces lost their lives.”

According to the officials of the hospital, the medical facilities and health employees have not suffered any harm.
“We don’t have any casualties in this attack. The hospital is continuing its normal operation,” said Mohammad Ameen Moeeni, head of the hospital.

Maiwand, 15, works as a vendor nearby the hospital and said that he has suffered financial losses in the attack.

“There was a lot of blood. A lot of people were wounded,” he added.

“Only one or two of the casualties were security forces. The rest of them were all civilians who worked here,”said Basheer Karwani, a witness.

The Defense Ministry also confirmed the killing of three members of the Islamic Emirate in the attack.

While some sources put the number of killed at 15 and wounded to nearly 40, the Defense Ministry confirmed the killing of four civilians and three force members of the Islamic Emirate.
