253 New Coronavirus Cases Reported in Afghanistan, Total 4,033

Wahid Majroh, health ministry deputy, announced on Saturday that in the past 24 hours 253 out of 520 samples tested positive for COVID-19, which brings the total to 4,033.

There were 6 deaths and 29 recoveries reported in the past 24 hours, Majroh said, adding that total deaths are 115 and total recoveries are 502.

The 253 new cases are reported in Herat (71), Balkh (43), Nangarhar (39), Takhar (24), Jawzjan (22), Paktia (16), Laghman (11), Kunduz (11), Ghazni (8), Kabul (4), Bamiyan (1), Panjshir (1), Kunar (1) and Nuristan (10).

Recent reports indicate Public Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz, who tested positive for COVID-19 is in “very good condition.”

Referring to increased health capacity, he said there are now 3,230 beds available across 34 provinces.

So far, over 15,560 samples have been tested, which analysts say is too low a number when compared to the country’s population.

The number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 274,934, and 3,940,866 have been infected with the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University.

So far 1,323,998 other people have recovered, JHU said.
