US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad has welcomed Taliban’s denunciation of Daesh or Islamic State (IS).
Khalilzad tweeted: “I welcome the Taliban’s statement denouncing Daesh and committing to stop any attempts by Daesh to recruit, fundraise, or train inside Afghanistan.”
The statement mirrored Taliban’s commitments (in the agreement with Washington) against Al-Qaeda and all other groups that threatened the US and its allies, he wrote.
“We expect the Taliban to deliver on their commitment. The fulfillment of our commitments within the agreement will depend on the Taliban delivering on their commitments,” the diplomat said.
Khalilzad praised the Taliban statement on Daesh and their recent operations against the terrorists in eastern Kunar province as positive steps.
