Forty-eight people were killed and 67 others injured, mostly young, in a suicide bomb attack on a private tuition center in Kabul late Wednesday, health officials said.

The attacker walked into Mahdavi Mawoudi private training centre in Dash-i-Barchi locality of Kabul on Wednesday afternoon and detonated his bomb belt, when classes were underway.

Waheedullah Majroh, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, told Pajhwok Afghan News 48 dead bodies and 67 injured people had been evacuated to hospitals from the scene.

Police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai said the attack unfolded shortly after 4pm in the limits of 18th police district.

President Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the suicide attack and said the terrorists by attacking cultural and educational centers once again demonstrated their enmity with Islam and teachings of the holy Prophet (PBUH).

He said Islam has made it mandatory on all Muslim men and women to pursue education.

The attacker targeted children taking extra classes to prepare for university entrance exams

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied the group’s involvement in the attack.
