Adjudication of electoral complaints to take more than one month: IECC

Following the announcement of the preliminary results of September 28 presidential election, the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) says it will begin investigation to the electoral complaints on Monday and the candidates have three days to file their complaints with the commission’s provincial offices.

Addressing a press conference in Kabul, IECC head Zohra Bayan Shinwari, urged candidates to file their complaints with full documentation at the commission headquarter or its provincial offices.

According to her, the process of addressing electoral complaints will take 15 days and if the electoral tickets would not be satisfied with the outcome of the complaints, they can appeal.

“The results are preliminary and any prejudgment should be avoided,” Shinwari said.

The IEC announced the preliminary results of the presidential election on Sunday which President Ashraf Ghani appears set to win a second term.

He secured 50.64% of the vote in the September 28 election.
