Afghan Youth Representative to the United Nations expressed grave concern over the civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict in the country.
Speaking at the UN Security Council, Aisha Khurram said that Afghan civilians, including women, children and innocent men, have been killed in the past almost a decade in the war on terror.
“This isn’t just a war on terror anymore, this is now a war against innocent civilians who want nothing but peace,” Khurram said.
She called on the international community at a UN Security Council meeting to help bring peace to her country, saying: “The greatest price of this conflict is paid by Afghan children and Afghan youth.”
“The ongoing peace process, presidential elections and the possible foreign troops withdrawal are going hand-in-hand to define the fate and future of our country at a time when Afghans are deeply frustrated and weary of the continued violence”,Khurram said.
Khurram shared some documents and evidences with the UNSC on civilian causalities, and urged the international organization to take practical steps for ending the almost two-decade-long war.
