Mohammad Mussa Mahmoudi, the head of Logar’s civil society, has gone missing, relatives confirmed Monday.

There is speculation that his disappearance is related to his recently-publicized report of sexual abuse of over 550 children and youth in Logar province.

Mahmoudi had moved to Kabul four days ago after receiving threats and his family said they “don’t know where he is now.”

In the meantime, former president Hamid Karzai called for his immediate release if he has been arrested by the NDS.

“If the National Directorate of Security has arrested this person, this would be not a good move and he must be released immediately,” Karzai said.

Research done by Logar’s Civil Society over the past six months reports sexual abuse of “550 school children and youth”.

Mahmoudi claimed that teachers, headmasters and local officials are involved in the abuse ring.

The victims are between 12 and 20 years old, he said.
