A business center exclusively for women has been put into service after its completion in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Monday.
Women Affairs Director for Kandahar Ruqaya Achakzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the facility’s construction cost one million dollars and has 37 different shops.
She termed the women’s market in Kandahar city as “an important step towards encouraging businesswomen and introducing their handicrafts and other products to local and international markets.
Achakzai said women would get training in different handicraft skills such as tailoring, fashion, designing and running restaurants and other modern skills at the center.
Abdul Baqi Bena, Kandahar’s Chamber of Commerce and Industries deputy head, described the women market’s inauguration a great facility for women in Kandahar.
He said now women would have a separate address to promote their handicrafts and other products.
Zahra, one of the skilled women, told Pajhwok Afghan News that in the past men were main beneficiaries of their products because women had no separate place where they could exhibit their products.
