President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Friday claimed around 2,000 Taliban insurgents have been killed in the past one week.
“I don’t like bloodshed, but today I would like to share a figures with you so that Taliban leader could understand. Nearly 2,000 Taliban have been killed in the past one week and the Taliban political office is responsible for this. We wanted ceasefire the way it happened in last year Eid and the dead Taliban would have not been in this condition,” the president told a gathering at the Loya Jirga hall.
He added, former Director of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) Masoum Stanikzai was dismissed after the killing of four civilians in Nangarhar province last week.
“I removed Stanikzai within two minutes after the incident and told them that I would part my ways if the casualties of innocent civilians continues and you observe daily that who is responsible for the killing of civilians.” The president said.
