At least four civilians were killed when a mortar struck a house in Afghanistan’s southern province of Zabul, officials said Monday.
The violence happened in Shah Joy district and the deaths included one woman and three children, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement.
Officials said that the mortar was fired by militants.
Civilians continue to bear the brunt of conflict in Afghanistan. At least 3,812 civilians were killed or wounded in the first half of 2019, according to the United Nations. July saw highest casualties than any month since May 2017.
In a separate incident, Afghan forces attacked the Taliban’s Voice of Sariah Radio station in central-eastern province of Ghazni, a statement from the provincial governor’s office said.
The raid happened in Kohe Lola of Zanakhan district.
Eight Taliban militants were killed while four others were arrested in the operation.
