Afghanistan’s parliament is set to hold a new election for speakership with new candidates after a runoff triggered month-long deadlock.
MPs on Monday held a secret ballot that confirmed invalidation of a controversial ballot cast in runoff that would otherwise allow Mir Rahmani take over the role.
Lawmakers are now expected to hold a new election for speakership.
The deadlock over speakership has seen at least two major brawls in the Afghan parliament. The latest brawl involved also breaking of chairs and desks.
