581 New COVID-19 Cases, 7,653 Total in Afghanistan

The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday said that it registered 581 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours–the highest number of cases reported in a day so far in Afghanistan–bringing the total positive cases to 7,653. 

The number of total known active cases in Afghanistan is 6,625, said the MoPH.

According to the Health Ministry, five people lost their lives over the past 24 hours and 45 more recovered. The known death toll from coronavirus is now 178 deaths.

The total number of recoveries is 850.

The new cases, according to the ministry, were reported in Kabul (165), Nangarhar (134), Herat (38), Balkh (55), Laghman (30), Samangan (23) Paktia (29), Ghazni (21), Takhar (12), Kunar (16), Sar-e-Pul (15), Badghis (13), Wardak (1), Baghlan (5), Kunduz (4), Parwan (4), Panjshir (9), Paktika (3), Khost (2), Badakhshan (1) and Daikundi (1).

So far, 24,697 people have been tested in the country.

The number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 318,596, and 4,805,544 have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Johns Hopkins University.
