30% Progress in Excavation Work of Qush Tepa Canal Phase Two

The National Development Corporation reports a 30% progress in the excavation work of Phase Two of the Qush Tepa Canal.

Officials at the National Development Corporation state that the construction of the Qush Tepa Canal’s intake structure has also progressed by 50%, and the excavation work of Phase Two and the construction of the intake structure are continuing vigorously.

Sayed Zabihullah Miri, the project manager of the Qush Tepa Canal, said: “The intake structure has approximately 50% physical progress, and the excavation work of Phase Two is in progress, with 30% physical advancement.”

Meanwhile, some experts say that with the completion of this canal, Afghanistan will witness significant economic progress and achieve self-sufficiency in wheat production.

Najibullah Sadid, an expert in water management, said: “The Qush Tepa Canal and all its subsidiary canals, once completed, can generate an annual revenue of between 470 to 550 million dollars for Afghanistan.”

Shakir Yaqubi, an economic expert, said: “The Qush Tepa Canal project is a long-term project. We cannot see its impact in the short term. However, if the implementation of this project is carried out according to the appropriate management methods, it can have an impact on Afghanistan’s economy.”

According to the National Development Corporation, the excavation work of Phase Two of the Qush Tepa Canal, which is expected to reach Andkhoy district in Faryab by the end of this solar year, is estimated to cost 20 billion Afghanis.
