1,000 imprisoned security forces being released

The Attorney General Office (AGO) on Thursday dispatched a draft plan for releasing 1,000 imprisoned security forces to the Presidential Palace, an official said.

The draft plan is regarding presidential pardon for the imprisoned security personnel on the occasion of the country’s 100th Independence Day.

AGO spokesman Jamshid Raousli told in a press conference that currently 1,700 security force languished in various jails throughout the country for crimes such as negligence, assassinations, misuse of authorities and fraud during duty.

Rasouli added 945 of them were national police, 455 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, 83 intelligence personnel and the rest were border and public order policemen.

He said the draft plan was created by a joint commission comprising officials Ministry of the justice, interior ministries, the Supreme Court, National Directorate of Security (NDS) and AGO.

He said the draft plan was shared with the Presidential Palace after the joint commission completed its investigation into the cases of all prisons of the country.

Meanwhile, Sidiq Sidiqi, the Presidential Palace spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the proposal was based on a presidential suggestion but he did not know how many security forces would be released.
