The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says that around 21.9 million people in Afghanistan nearly 45% of the country’s population will require humanitarian assistance in 2026.
The report states that about 11.6 million of them are children, affected by malnutrition, diseases, and limited access to education and basic services.
UNICEF says Afghanistan is facing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with long-term conflict, economic weakness, and natural disasters worsening the situation. Restrictions on women and girls’ participation in public life have also been identified as a major factor deepening the crisis.
