Officials in Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), central bank of Afghanistan, say from three to four billion Afghanis banknotes are withdrawn from circulation each year.

According to a report by Ariana News, the officials said that although the Afghani banknotes are purely made of cotton and has the capacity of being folded up to 3,500 times, inappropriate use of the paper notes by people makes it get out of use in a short time.

“The Afghani bank note has the highest physical quality in the region, but annually 3 to 4 billion Afghanis get out of use because of the wrong use. Printing each bank note of Afghani costs 3.5 Afghanis,” said Shafiqullah Shafiq the operating deputy of the bank.

Meanwhile, economists blame DAB for not raising awareness among people regarding this issue.

This comes as based on the statistics from the central bank, in the past decade, more than 58 billion Afghanis went out of circulation.
