As the industrial sector continues to expand across the province, officials from the Laghman Directorate of Industry and Commerce have announced the inauguration of a new oil and oilcake production facility, valued at $70,000.
Mawlavi Salamat Khan Bilal, the provincial Director of Industry and Commerce, confirmed to Bakhtar News Agency that the plant is situated in the Tigriyo area of Mehtarlam city. He emphasized that the facility will significantly bolster local supply chains, serving as a vital resource for both resident households and livestock owners.
Factory manager Noorhadullah stated that the project required an investment of $70,000. Currently, the plant produces 150 liters of cooking oil and 100 bags of oilcake daily. While he acknowledged that output currently meets only a fraction of the regional demand, he noted that it provides a crucial supplement for local culinary needs and animal fodder.
Previously, local livestock breeders reported enduring substantial hardships, as they were forced to source oilcake from the neighboring Nangarhar province. They cited the considerable travel distance and exorbitant freight charges as major operational hurdles.
With the new plant now fully operational, farmers have expressed significant relief. They state that the local facility has effectively resolved these logistical issues, granting them easier access to essential feed at much more affordable rates.
