The President of Kazakhstan, during the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in St. Petersburg, emphasized that to gain access to South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African markets, the Trans-Afghan railway must be expanded. He noted that financial backing from the Eurasian Development Bank would be beneficial to the project.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, said: “Direct access for our countries to South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African markets can be achieved through the joint expansion of the Trans-Afghan corridor. In this regard, the capacity of the railway route connecting Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan must be increased. Financial support from the Eurasian Development Bank could significantly accelerate this process.”
According to a number of economic experts, the implementation of this project would turn Afghanistan into a regional transit hub. The project is also expected to increase transit revenues, create job opportunities, and strengthen Afghanistan’s economic and political position.
Shamsurrahman Ahmadzai, an economic analyst, said: “With the successful implementation of this major project, Afghanistan will gain significant value both nationally and internationally. If the project begins and is successfully completed, it will boost the country’s economic future.”
Qutbuddin Yaqubi, another economic expert, said: “This corridor passing through Afghanistan will not only generate transit revenue, but also create more trade opportunities, allowing Afghanistan to benefit further.”
The Trans-Afghan Corridor is one of the most important economic and transit projects in the region. Its goal is to connect Central Asia to South Asia through Afghanistan. The project is part of broader efforts by regional countries and international organizations to strengthen trade, reduce transportation costs, and promote regional economic stability.
