The Interministerial Investment Committee has reviewed private-sector investment proposals for the exploration, extraction, and processing of phosphate, copper, and zinc, as well as a proposal to build an underground commercial market in Kabul.

In a statement issued today, the Economic Deputy Office of the Prime Minister said the meeting discussed a private-sector proposal to explore, extract, and process phosphate, copper, and zinc. Under the proposed plan, phosphate would be used to produce chemical fertilizers, while copper would be used to manufacture electrical cables.

Following extensive discussions, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum was tasked with conducting a comprehensive assessment of the proposal and submitting its findings to the Interministerial Investment Committee.

The meeting also reviewed a proposal to construct an underground commercial market on land belonging to Kabul Municipality. The proposed market would extend from Sepahi Gumnam Square to Maiwand Road and from there to Pul-e-Yak-Pisa in Kabul’s District 1.

After discussions, the committee assigned to the project was instructed to complete social and traffic impact studies as soon as possible and submit its findings to the Interministerial Investment Committee.
