The Mines and Petroleum Department of Panjshir has announced the start of emerald extraction in 30 new mines located in the Parian and Hisa-e-Awal districts of the province.
Mawlavi Mohammad Qasim Amiri, head of the Panjshir Department of Mines and Petroleum, told Bakhtar News Agency that extraction has begun in 30 of the 270 newly discovered emerald mines in these two districts.
According to him, during the second quarter of the current year, a specialized team from the department discovered and verified 270 new emerald mines in the Khenj, Dasht-e-Riwat, and Sefid-Chehr areas of Hisa-e-Awal district, as well as in the Arib area of Parian district.
He added that extraction in 30 of these newly discovered mines has officially begun with government licenses, carried out by local residents.
The head of the department further noted that over 600 emerald miners in Panjshir have so far been issued work permits.
