Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, Afghanistan’s Minister of Economy, met with Richard Lindsay, the United Kingdom’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, and called on the international community and aid organizations to place greater emphasis on development assistance.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Economy, the two officials discussed strategies to enhance economic and humanitarian cooperation, address challenges faced by returneess, and bolster the private sector.
Lindsay reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to continued humanitarian support and announced £1.5 million (€1.5 million) in new aid for the Afghan people.
While expressing appreciation for Britain’s humanitarian efforts, Minister Hanif stressed the need to expand development aid, create jobs, lift sanctions, and release Afghanistan’s frozen foreign currency reserves.
He further noted that job creation, private sector support, and stronger development programs would lay the groundwork for economic self-reliance and reduce Afghanistan’s dependency on foreign aid.
