Afghanistan’s national taekwondo athlete, Hekmatullah Zain, secured a bronze medal at the Kazakhstan International Freestyle Championships.

According to the Bakhtar News Agency, Zain, competing in the fourth weight category, advanced to the semi-finals after achieving two consecutive victories against opponents from Saudi Arabia and Kyrgyzstan. However, in his semi-final match against Kazakh fighter Gaziz, despite initially leading, Zain ultimately lost the contest and finished with the bronze medal.

In the semi-finals, Zain experienced an unexpected setback, losing the first round 2-0. He rebounded in the second round, taking a 4-0 lead but lost key points, resulting in a final score of 10-6 against him.

The head coach of the Afghanistan national taekwondo team praised Zain’s performance, noting that he was the only Afghan athlete to secure a medal in this competition.
