According to reports, the quake hit the eastern provinces of the country, leaving deaths and injuries. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6, with its epicenter located about eight kilometers beneath the ground near Jalalabad city. About 20 minutes after the initial quake, a second earthquake occurred in the same Nangarhar province with a magnitude of 4.5 and a depth of 10 kilometers underground.
Local authorities in Nangarhar told the media, based on preliminary information, that 9 people were killed and 25 others injured. However, so far, no exact figures have been provided regarding the casualties in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces caused by this deadly earthquake.
Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on his X account that people in Kunar and Nangarhar suffered both human and material losses. He added that local authorities and residents are busy rescuing the affected, while rescue teams from the capital and other provinces are also on their way.
