Herat province has drawn close to $2 billion in investment over the past five years, funding ventures across various economic sectors as well as the establishment of new companies and projects in industry, manufacturing, services, and infrastructure.

Mufti Yousuf Saeedi, spokesman for the Herat provincial administration, said the investments span economic, manufacturing, services, and infrastructure sectors, with major projects playing a pivotal role in stimulating economic activity and generating employment opportunities in the province.

He noted that several large-scale economic and infrastructure projects have been launched in recent years, with some already operational, helping to lay the groundwork for broader economic development in Herat.

Saeedi identified the Herat Cement Project, solar and wind power generation initiatives, Herat’s master urban plan, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, and other infrastructure undertakings as key contributors to the province’s development.

He added that work continues on major projects, including an international terminal in southern Herat city, the Pol-e Hashemi substation, and the construction and expansion of several urban and intercity roads.

According to Saeedi, expanding investment opportunities, supporting domestic production, and developing economic infrastructure remain among the provincial administration’s priorities. Efforts are also underway to offer additional facilities and incentives to attract more investors to Herat.

Herat is considered one of Afghanistan’s key economic provinces, owing to its strategic location, its proximity to Iran and Turkmenistan, and its position along major regional transit routes.
