A motorcycle manufacturing company in Herat has begun producing and assembling electric motorcycles with an investment of $5 million.
Naqibullah Haqmal, head of the Foolad Siklit Factory, said the factory, which previously focused on producing and assembling regular motorcycles, has now expanded its operations to include electric motorcycles using modern systems.
He said the shift toward electric motorcycle production is part of the factory’s efforts to adopt new technologies and respond to current market demand.
According to him, around 400 people are currently employed in various sections of the motorcycle production and assembly facilities, with the number of employees expected to increase as operations expand.
Officials from the Herat Directorate of Industry and Commerce also said that industrialists in the province are working to expand domestic production and introduce higher-quality products to the market by adopting new technologies.
Mawlavi Bashir Mohammad Sirat, Director of Industry and Commerce of Herat, said the use of electric vehicles can help reduce fossil fuel consumption, lower transportation costs, and improve environmental conditions. He added that expanding the use of electric vehicles could also contribute to reducing air pollution.
Meanwhile, Nasir Amin, head of the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, said around 40 factories are currently engaged in the production and assembly of motorcycles in the province, of which two are involved in producing and assembling electric motorcycles.
He described the production of electric motorcycles as a step forward for the motorcycle manufacturing industry, saying that expanding the use of such vehicles could create opportunities for adopting new technologies and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
