Saifuddin Laton, spokesperson for the Panjshir governor, announced that 3,842 carats of emeralds, along with 22 samples, were sold for 33 million Afghanis in the province.
He said the emeralds were sold to Afghan traders through an auction in the presence of members of the province’s Mining Protection Committee.
He added that the emeralds had recently been extracted from mines in Panjshir.
