The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has reported that 74% of people in Afghanistan faced food insecurity in 2025. According to the report, although Afghanistan’s economy grew by 1.9%, it remains too weak to keep pace with rapid population growth. The report, which assesses Afghanistan’s socio-economic conditions in 2025, states that structural limitations, limited job opportunities, a growing trade deficit, and declining international aid have slowed economic recovery. Rural communities, women, returning refugees, and drought-affected areas remain under severe economic and humanitarian pressure.
