Rail trade between Afghanistan and Iran has surged by 17 times in recent months. Shahriar Naqizada, Director General of Foreign Trade at Iran’s Railway, announced that from the beginning of Hamal until the 5th of Hoot, a total of 650,000 tons of goods have been transported to Afghanistan via rail.
Of this amount, 150,000 tons consisted of transit goods, meaning they originated from other countries and were routed through Iran to reach Afghanistan.
According to Bakhtar News Agency, citing IRNA, Naqizada indicated that Iran aims to transport 2 million tons of cargo through the Shamtiq border into Afghanistan by the year 1405, a target he regards as easily achievable.
Experts note that the increase in Afghanistan’s trade with various countries is beneficial for market diversification and enhances access to different markets for citizens. They believe this trend will contribute to the growth of trade and bolster the economy.
