The Deputy Minister of Railways from the Ministry of Public Works highlighted the significance of Turghandi port as a crucial economic corridor for Afghanistan, linking Central Asian countries with South Asian markets.
During a recent visit to the development site of Turghandi port in Herat province, Mawlavi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, along with Mamet Akmamedov, the Minister of Railways of Turkmenistan, discussed the ongoing progress of the port and railway infrastructure.
The visit aimed to enhance transit and economic cooperation between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, focusing on assessing the advancements of the Turghandi port development project.
Sahibzada emphasized that the Ministry of Public Works is dedicated to improving the port’s infrastructure, increasing loading and unloading capacities, boosting the transportation of commercial goods, and developing the railway in accordance with international standards.
Akmamedov reiterated Turkmenistan’s commitment to supporting regional connectivity projects through Afghanistan, stating that collaboration in the railway sector would not only create economic opportunities but also strengthen ties between the peoples of both countries.
The Turghandi port development project, which has been contracted with Turkmenistan, involves an investment of over $5 million. This initiative aims to enhance trade between Afghanistan, the region, and the global market, opening new avenues for economic growth in the country.
