The Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan has refuted claims made by Iranian officials regarding the quality and origin of the saffron exported from Afghanistan.
The Iranian officials alleged that much of the saffron being sold in international markets as Afghan is, in fact, produced in Iran.
Responding to these accusations, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Commerce emphasized that the country only exports its own domestically produced saffron, known for its exceptional quality.
According to the ministry, all export shipments are thoroughly vetted and approved by international customer laboratories, ensuring that only the highest quality saffron reaches the global market.
A statement from the ministry, reported by Bakhtar News Agency, asserted, “Without a doubt, Afghanistan’s exported saffron is entirely a domestic product. We see no reason to harm the reputation of Afghan saffron by exporting low-quality saffron from other countries.”
The ministry also highlighted its commitment to supporting local saffron producers, describing them as a positive example of quality production.
