Officials in the Ministry of Public Health on Sunday announced that in the last two years, more than 32,000 people visited health facilities for cancer.
They made the remarks at a ceremony in Kabul to mark World Cancer Day.
According to officials, there are only four cancer treatment and diagnosis centers in Kabul, and the ministry plans to establish four more centers.
In the event, World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Afghanistan, Dr Luo Dapengthe, stated that there were an estimated 20 million new cancer cases in 2022, and the number is predicted to increase by 77 percent by 2050.
Every year on the occasion of World Cancer Day, events aimed at increasing people’s awareness about the disease is held in the country.
