US President Donald Trump has written a letter to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan seeking Islamabad’s help in the Afghan peace process, Pakistani media reported on Monday.
According to a Geo report, Prime Minister Imran, in a meeting with TV anchors and reporters, informed that he received a letter from the US president earlier Monday. In the letter, Trump has asked Pakistan to play its role in Afghan peace talks which are aimed at catalyzing an end to the 17-year invasion of Afghanistan by US troops.
Trump has also sought Pakistan’s help in bringing the Taliban leadership to the negotiating table, Prime Minister Imran disclosed.
This comes as the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad embarked on tour to visit Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar with an interagency delegation from December 2 to 20, the US Department of State said in a statement late on Sunday.
