Afghan Orthopedic Surgeon to Receive ‘Excellence in Orthopedics Award’

Well-known Afghan orthopedic surgeon Mohammad Ismail Wardak, has won the “Excellence in Orthopedics Award” by SIGN Fracture Care International.

Dr. Wardak will receive his award in October in Washington state in the US.

Dr. Wardak is the commander of the Afghan Armed Forces Academy of Medical Science, who has also been invited to the annual orthopedic conference from 5-7 October 2022 in Washington State for his expertise in Orthopedic Trauma Surgery.

“The programs from Afghanistan were both high in numbers and included good surgeries. Also its management, which is my responsibility, was very professional compared to other programs, thus they considered it necessary to give me this award,” Dr. Wardak said.

Dr. Wardak said that he in cooperation with Dr. Abdul Raziq Wardak invented the new fixation device for kneecap fractures that was approved by FOA in the US in 2009 and he published his papers in JOT ( Journal of trauma ) in 2012.

Dr. Wardak said that he treated 15,000 patients with the support of SIGN.

“Because of our activities inside Afghanistan in the field of orthopedics, and to praise my activities, they named this award for good global orthopedic surgeons for me,” he said.

Dr. Wardak was awarded top medals by two former Afghan presidents.

Former president Ashraf Ghani awarded him the Sayed Jamaluddin medal.

Ex-president Hamid Karzai also gave Dr. Wardak the highest governmental medal.
