President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said the Salang pass would be closed for rehabilitation works and Doshi-Bamyan and Doshi-Pawan highways would be used as alternative routes to link the central provinces to the North.
He made the remarks during a meeting with the provincial security and military officials of Bamyan province on Friday.
According to ARG Palace, the construction work of roads in Bamyan province is being implemented rapidly but the residents of the province face security issues on Ghorband-Jalrez highway.
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said the security and defense officials assured that the local residents of Bamyan fully support the security forces and a close coordination exists between the police and provincial government.
The statement further added that President Ghani instructed the Chief of Staff of Defense Ministry to pay close attention to the security of the highways connecting to Bamyan province, emphasizing that the Bamyan residents and traders should remain safe while travelling on the highways.
He also added that Salang would be closed due to rehabilitation works and Bayan-Doshi and Bamyan-Parway highways would be used as alternative routes, therefore it is necessary that the security of the highways should be fully ensured.
