Ghani Inaugurates New School Year, Seeks Quality Education

President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday inaugurated the new school year by ringing the bell at Amani High School in Kabul where he stressed the need for quality education in the country and vowed further support to teachers.

Ghani said that at least 1,800 new schools will be built this year and that over 11,000 posts will be announced for teachers.

“The promise to increase teachers’ salaries will be implemented by the middle of this year,” Ghani said.

He said that all school textbooks will be published within the country this year and announced to reduce tariffs on local companies to protect the sector.

“There is a need to provide practical work for students from 9th to 12th year in schools and same for university students,” Ghani said.

He vowed to improve digital services for students in schools and universities as a priority for the ministries of education and higher education.
