At the invitation of the United States, Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Yi, State Councilor and foreign minister, went to Anchorage, Alaska on March 18 local time, for a bilateral high-level strategic dialogue with US side. The Chinese delegation went to Anchorage with great sincerity regardless of the fatigue of the long journey, focusing on the overall situation of the development of Sino-US relations. However, it is surprising that US officials criticized China’s internal affairs in their opening remarks unscrupulously. The US side’s speech is pure slander, and is not the way to treat guests, nor is it in line with diplomatic etiquette and protocols. The US side is constantly breaking through its own moral bottom line. Why does the United States face other countries, including China, with such a condescending attitude? Obviously, it has something to do with the ideology of calling itself a lighthouse of human rights. The common sense tells us that sometimes there is darkness under the lamp.
What is the human rights situation of the United States? The epidemic prevention and control is ineffective, which seriously damages the health and life rights of the American people. The domestic party struggles often cause the government to be suspended. Systematic racial discrimination has infringed the human rights of minority groups. The overabundance of firearms threatens the life safety of the American people, and the wanton use of force and sanctions on the international stage has put some countries and regions into continuous turbulence and cause huge disaster of Human rights, etc. I think it’s just a small part of the bad record of the United States, but it’s all undeniable. I think the Afghan people have the same profound experience as the Chinese people in this respect.
Whether the life of the Chinese is good or not, who has the final say? Over about the past 70 years since the founding of People’s Republic of China, China’s per capita GDP has risen from less than US$30 to more than US$10,000. More than 800 million people have been lifted out of poverty, and absolute poverty has been eliminated for the first time in the history of the Chinese nation. Even according to a report released by the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard University, Chinese citizens’ satisfaction with the government has improved all-around. Why does the US government want to force the Chinese people to think that they are living in dire straits? Oughtn’t it to take care of its domestic affairs first?
What are the benefits of blaming China? The accusation of China seems to be the domestic political correctness of the United States, the perfect excuse for the United States to excuse all its responsibilities, and the slogan for the United States to form cliques over the world. Accusing others is an easy job and it hurts the reputation of the others without factual basis or logical self-consistency. Sensible adults should know that blaming others cannot solve their own problems, and the most developed country which is responsible for all mankind.
As the Chinese leader said at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland in 2017, we must share the responsibilities of the times and promote global development. Only the light of cooperation can illuminate the journey of common progress of the world!
