Two Afghan military officers who went to the United States for training have been reported missing as they didn’t show up for a flight back to their home country.
The two were among 200 service members from five countries, who attended a training exercise in Camp Edwards in Massachusetts.
They were transported to Logan Airport on Saturday to catch a flight home, but the plane left without them on it, US broadcaster Boston 25 News reported.
“It’s embarrassing,” Northeastern University associate professor Max Abrahms said. “I want to know the identity of these people, their backgrounds, and what they were trying to do.”
This is not the first instance of Afghan military officers going missing from training in US.
Between 2005 and 2017, more than 2,500 Afghan soldiers and police went to the US for training, of which 152 went absent without leave, according to US watchdog Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.
