Riyadh to continue backing Afghan peace process

Saudi Arabia has reiterated its commitment to providing all-out support for efforts by the Afghans to achieve lasting peace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Saturday.

In a statement, MoFA said Foreign Minister Hanif Atmar had a telephonic conversation with his Saudi counterpart Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir on Friday evening.

At the start of the conversation, Atmar asked his Saudi counterpart about the health of The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and wished him good health.

Atmar hailed Saudi Arabia as Afghanistan’s sincere friend and appreciated continued support and cooperation from the oil-rich kingdom for Afghanistan in different areas.

The minister also lauded the Saudi pledge to construct 100 schools in Afghanistan. He called Saudi support vital to the Afghan peace process.

The Saudi foreign minister stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields and reiterated the Saudi commitment to supporting the Afghan peace process.
