The government has established five quarantine centers in Herat and Nimroz provinces as part of its efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the country where 22 people have so far tested positive for the virus, officials said.
Also, a 200-bed hospital in Kandahar has been prepared for the coronavirus patients, according to the Administrative Office of the President.
Other efforts in this regard include increasing the capacity of existing health centers, head of the office, Elham Hotaki said.
“These centers are government-owned buildings,” Hotaki said.
The panic among the people created by the news on the spread of the coronavirus in the country has resulted in a sharp increase in groceries and other supplies prices in local markets.
“The government has started filling the strategic reserves and the private sector is also cooperating,” said Hotaki. “A high-ranking delegation is traveling to Kazakhstan for commodities procurement so that we have enough food for a possible three months of quarantine.”
“We are doubling our capacity in Kabul,” said the Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahid Mayar at a press conference in Kabul on Wednesday, adding that no positive case of the coronavirus was reported in last 24 hours.
