India will provide $10.8 million for the construction of the Band-e-Amir-Yakawalang and the Mazar-e-Sharif Airport roads, an official said on Saturday.

An agreement to the effect was signed between Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar and Deputy Finance Minister Abdul Habib Zadran.

Kumar said: “We consider Afghanistan our strategic partner and this agreement would further expand our bilateral relationship.”

He hoped the two projects, specially the Band-e-Amir-Yakawlang road construction, would help improve the tourism industry in Afghanistan.

India’s Foreign Secretary arrived in Kabul on Friday and held meetings with President Ashraf Ghani and other officials.
