Presidential candidate Rahmatullah Nabil on Wednesday said that the ‘fraudulent’ results of the presidential elections marked the ‘day of the death of democracy’ and the start of a new crisis in the country.
“A government that emerges out of ‘fraud’ is not acceptable,” said Nabil at a press conference in Kabul.
Nabil suggested the election results be ignored and instead a ‘reconciliation government’ should be formed in view of the ongoing peace process.
“Afghan politics has become totally the politics of the mafia—it means few people come, they release the prisoners— there are 700 to 800 people in their team and then they become needy for 200,000 fraudulent votes,” said Nabil.
He said both Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani should step down from power in view of the current situation.
“The elections should be dissolved and the Taliban must come and announce a nationwide ceasefire so that we can move towards the establishment of a reconciliation government where there is no personal and individual interests,” suggested Nabil.
Meanwhile, President Ashraf Ghani’s first and second vice presidents have expressed different views about the elections.
First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum has rejected the results of the election.
But second Vice President Sarwar Danish said:
“Now the election rivalries have come to an end, we must put aside those differences that emerge from electoral rivalries.”
