Civil society activists on Sunday staged a protest demonstration in front of Iranian embassy in Kabul against torture of a teenage Afghan boy.
The protesters said the 16-year-old Afghan boy was savagely tortured by men belonging to the head of a council in Harmuzgan province.
Some media outlets published the boy’s photo, in which his hands are tied up while being beaten.
Some civil society activists staged a protest in front of Iranian embassy and demanded severe punishment for the perpetrators.
Abdul Nasir Reshtia, speaking on behalf of others, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the boy had been illegally beaten in Qasham Island following the accusation that he intimidated the wife of the social council head.
He said if the allegation was true, the boy should not have been tortured in such a savage manner and the issue must have been followed legally.
“Iran calls itself an Islamic country. Does Islam say you beat a migrant or a labor, it is shameful that you call yourself a Muslim country,” he remarked.
Spokesman for the Justice Seekers Association civil society group, Fazl Minallah Mumtaz, condemned the brutal beating of the young boy and called it against humanity. He said: “Iran! You call yourself the defense of the oppressed.”
He added Iran was not only abusing Afghans but had so far sent 20,000 Afghan migrants to Syria and Iraq for fighting in wars there.
The protestors asked the Iranian government to give severe punishment to the perpetrators and avoid such crimes against Afghans in future.
They also urged the Afghan government to seriously follow the issue and close the Iranian embassy in Kabul and summon the country’s diplomat in order to defend Afghans’ rights.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the perpetrators who beat the Afghan boy in Iran have been arrested.
Iranian Embassy in Kabul in a statement said that relevant organs were investigating the incident and the perpetrators would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Some media reports say the Afghan teenage died after severe torture but the MoFA says he is alive.
