The Pakistani ambassador to Kabul, Zahid Nasrullah Khan, met with the Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah in Kabul where he hailed the Afghans for taking part in the Saturday’s presidential elections and urged for more cooperation between the two countries to enhance their bilateral ties.
According to a press release issued from Abdullah’s office, the Pakistani envoy also briefed Abdullah on a high level delegation of Taliban to Islamabad where they are set to meet Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
The Pakistani officials will push the Taliban delegation to support the Afghan peace process and engage in intra-Afghan talks, the statement read.
“We thanked the Pakistani ambassador and told him that the Afghan people and the government strongly support the peace process and we expect Pakistan to use its leverage on the Taliban to join intra-Afghan talks,” said Abdullah Abdullah’s press release.
