The Chief Executive of Jamiat-e Islami political party Ata Mohammad Noor has claimed there would be no need for run-off election as the preliminary vote count indicates the victory of one of the presidential runners in the first round.
Without disclosing further information regarding his claim, Noor further added that the office of Chief Executive won’t exist, emphasizing that those mulling to create crisis, reject election results and drag the people to streets, should forget the idea as the people and the country do not have the tolerance for a crisis at a ‘critical point’.
Voting for presidential elections kicked off at around 7 am local time in Afghanistan on Saturday and continued until 5 pm.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) officials announced late on Saturday night they have received the results of 2,597 polling stations out of 4,942 polling stations from across Afghanistan.
The officials further added that more than 1.051 million voters cast their votes in polling stations.
However, the officials said they have not received the primary data regarding the remaining polling stations so far.
