Women among 5 civilians killed, several missing in Wardak operation

Two women among five civilians were killed during military operations in the Saydabad district of Wardak province, residents claimed Saturday.

Special forces from National Directorate of Security (NDS) 01 Unit conducted operation and bombarded two houses in the Tangi area of Saidabad district Friday night, a local resident told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

He said bodies of five civilians including two women were recovered from the debris of the destroyed houses while some others might still be buried under the debris, adding local residents were busy in retrieving dead and injured.

He said the death toll might rise as these were preliminary information.

According to the resident, it was unclear who was the target of the operation.

Waliullah Shaheen, a Kabul based independent journalist who is hailing from Wardak province, said in a Facebook post that “Two houses have been bombarded. A minor girl, a boy and their mother have been martyred and father of the children injured in one house while inmates of the second house are still burry under the debris and the villagers are busy in recovering operations.”

He said a mosque was also bombarded and where several seminary students were buried under the debris while three other persons a doctor of a clinic, a driver of an ambulance and another civilian were missing.
