Gravel work on phases one and two of the Wakhan Road project is expected to be completed by the end of this solar year.

The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, while rejecting any challenges to the project, emphasized that the Islamic Emirate is committed to completing it.

The Wakhan Road project, spanning 120 kilometers, is considered one of the most significant infrastructure initiatives that has received serious attention since the return of the Islamic Emirate to power.

Noorulhadi Adel, spokesperson for the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, stated: “There are no problems with the Wakhan-Badakhshan road project, which connects to China. The work is progressing smoothly and regularly.”

Economic experts say that completing this project will not only enhance trade relations between Kabul and Beijing but also pave the way for direct exports to China.

Abdul Zahoor Modabber, an economic analyst, said: “If the Wakhan road is utilized properly, Afghanistan’s dependency on neighboring countries will decrease. It will link the country to major markets like China and through that, to Europe. This would elevate Afghanistan’s trade to a global level, and the corridor would hold strategic importance in the country’s commercial relations.”

Mir Shaker Yaqoubi, another economic expert, said: “It is beneficial for us to establish relations with China, and if the Wakhan road is completed sooner, we can export and import goods to and from China in the simplest way. This would benefit both Afghanistan and China.”

Previously, the Chinese ambassador in Kabul had stated that China aims to contribute to Afghanistan’s economic development through joint infrastructure projects — a move that could significantly expand economic ties between the two countries.
