US Reports 214,446 Deaths from Coronavirus

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday reported 7,787,548 cases of the new coronavirus, an increase of 46,614 from its previous count, and said that the number of deaths had risen by 338 to 214,446. 

The CDC reported its tally of cases of the respiratory illness known as COVID-19, caused by a new coronavirus, as of 4 pm ET on Oct. 12 versus its previous report a day earlier.

Also, India’s total coronavirus cases rose by 55,342 in the last 24 hours to 7.18 million on Tuesday, the lowest daily rise since mid-August, data from the health ministry showed.

Deaths from COVID-19 infections rose by 706 to 109,856, the ministry said.

India’s coronavirus case load topped 7 million on Sunday and the country has added a million cases in just 13 days. It has the second-highest number of infections, behind the United States which is approaching the 8 million mark.

European nations tightened coronavirus restrictions and scientists said reinfection cases raised concerns over immunity, while the G20 group was ready to extend a multi-billion dollar debt freeze to help the world’s poorest countries survive the pandemic.
